Make the Most of your Free Time During a Business Trip

3 June 2021

The team at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has compiled a list of things to do to successfully balance business with leisure when visiting a destination like the Gold Coast. Our ocean-side city offers a wide range of activities that everyone can make time for – even if you’re attending a multi-day conference.

BURLEIGH HEADS NATIONAL PARK

If you’re willing to wake up when the sun does, Burleigh Heads National Park offers picturesque views of our iconic coastline and secret pathways to hidden creeks. The trail takes 30 minutes to walk and is one of the busiest on the Gold Coast, but it’s not just people you’ll encounter – it’s home to lizards, turkeys, butterflies and much more so be sure to keep an eye out.

KURRAWA BEACH

It’s undeniable that the Gold Coast has some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. Walks along the beach or early morning swims are some of the best ways to unwind when travelling for business. Whether it’s surfing, jet-skiing, snorkelling or boat cruising, you have the opportunity to see the Coast from a whole new (offshore) perspective; and if ‘activities’ aren’t your thing, soaking up the sun, enjoying the water and spending time lying on the beach is just as worthwhile.

BUNDALL FARMERS’ MARKET

Every Sunday Home of the Arts (HOTA) holds the Bundall Farmers’ Market. From 6am – 11:30am, the Market is a hive of activity with local businesses offering an assortment of freshly sourced fruit and vegetables, organic squeezed juice, barista-made coffee, cakes and slices, tasty tapenades and freshly baked bread. Local talent also gathers to entertain the weekly shoppers by showcasing their music live. The Market is the perfect way to immerse yourself into Gold Coast’s lively community.

WILDFLOWER GIN DISTILLERY

It can be difficult to switch off after a day of networking and professional development, but Wildflower Gin make it easy with a visit to their boutique, interactive distillery (easily accessible via public transport or rideshare services). Labelled “Burleigh in a bottle”, Wildflower incorporates subtle hints of botanicals, honey from the distillery’s backyard and other fruity notes. What sets Wildflower apart from other distilleries is their BYO food offering – a perfect opportunity to whip up a quick charcuterie board, gather with fellow colleagues and end the night with a gin tasting. That’ll be sure to get your spirits up.

MARINA MIRAGE

A short ride from Broadbeach North Tram Station (directly opposite GCCEC) to Main Beach Station will leave you within walking distance of Marina Mirage – a waterside venue that offers premier shopping, fine dining and marina services. With million-dollar views, Marina Mirage is the ultimate destination to enjoy a relaxed yet sophisticated day out. After a dramatic $40 million redevelopment over a decade ago, this two-level precinct is still unrivalled as one of Gold Coast’s luxury lifestyle destinations.

Be sure to utilise your time on the Gold Coast and make the most of your trip by visiting some of GCCEC’s favourite spots.
