Build-A-Bike

Delivering Joy to Children in Need

Each Christmas, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is delighted to host it’s annual Build-A-Bike initiative, an event designed to bring joy to the Gold Coast’s most vulnerable youngsters by gifting them brand-new bicycles.

A Tradition of Giving

For many years, the GCCEC team, along with community and business partners, has united to construct and donate hundreds of bicycles to Act for Kids, a charity committed to aiding children in need. This collaborative endeavour has brought countless smiles to vulnerable kids and positively transformed the lives of numerous families.

Each year, we aspire to grow the Build-A-Bike event with a record setting donation of bicycles with the assistance of local businesses. Our objective is to spread festive cheer and impact the lives of even more children who might otherwise face a giftless Christmas.

Making a Difference Together

We invite you to join this noble cause. Contributing a bicycle and offering your time to assemble it with your team will significantly enhance the festive experience for so many deserving children.

Case Study:

A family with four children who have a parent significantly affected by mental illness were about to celebrate Christmas with no gifts for the children as the family barely managed to provide food, clothing and shelter.

The Act for Kids staff member advised the mother that all the children would be gifted donations from Build A Bike. She cried when she was told and spoke of her feelings of hopelessness leading up to Christmas, knowing she was unable to provide gifts for her children. She described the donations as being gifted by angels.

“My bike is very special to me because I learnt to ride without training wheels so I’ll remember it forever.”

“My bike is the fastest bike in the world!!!”

“I love my bike because we all get to do family things together and take all our bikes.”
– Belinda, 6 years old
