Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre is the best venue in Australia for meetings and events

It is official - the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is the best Meeting Venue in Australia taking out the major venue award at this year’s Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) National awards.

Dazzling at the industry’s night of nights in Darwin this week, the GCCEC reclaimed its top spot on the mantle against a highly competitive national field of standout venues, highlighting the Centre’s exceptional performance on the back of its most successful year since opening in 2004. 

The GCCEC plays a major part in the leisure tourism sector hosting a plethora of business, lifestyle, entertainment and sporting events attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors. Not surprising, in the period of review (2011 – 2012 financial year) the Centre contributed to a strong economic injection into the Queensland economy of $284 million – a 17% jump on the previous financial year.

GCCEC’s General Manager Adrienne Readings said the accolade categorically reaffirms the Centre’s position as a market leader in the MICE sector.

“As Australia’s largest regional convention centre, the GCCEC has once again proved that the nation’s top leisure destination is also a favoured business destination.”

“In 2010 the Centre was inducted into MEA’s Hall of fame in this very category and to once again be recognised demonstrates that we work well as a team to deliver excellence beyond expectations.”

Ms Readings believes the Centre’s reputation as the premier conference and events destination is well deserved because of the talented staff that remain key to contributing to the venue’s ongoing success.

More than 1.79 million people have attended 1,818 meetings or events at the GCCEC since it opened. The Centre continues to host a mix of leisure and business tourism events attracting thousands of local, interstate and international visitors each year. 

The hotly contested awards are the premier accolade for best industry management practice and outstanding performance in the Australian meetings and business events industry.

I have conducted two major formal dinners at GCCEC for approx 700 people each time, the more recent of these being held in March 2015. I am completely satisfied with all aspects of working with GCCEC and their performance in presenting our function. They were completely professional and were willing to do things exactly the way I wanted them done, even meeting some unusual requirements. When I requested to make layout changes only hours before the dinner the request was accommodated immediately and with professional ease. The dinner was an alternate drop three course full service meal with drinks package, and it was without a doubt the best formal dinner I have ever attended. I have managed many similar dinners in the past but this dinner achieved by far the best result, it was the easiest to organise and to then manage on the night. Our GCCEC functions manager was a competent and willing professional who achieved an absolutely flawless event. I am still trying to understand how the catering staff were able to prepare almost 700 perfectly cooked and presented meals and get them to the tables whilst still hot.
