Earlier this year, koalas were scattered about the Gold Coast - all part of an art, tourism and wildlife conservation project, Animals With Attitude. 20 painted koala statues were placed throughout the city to raise awareness of their plight before being auctioned off to raise much needed funds for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
One of the beautiful sculptures has now been permanently positioned at the GCCEC. His official name is ‘Shaken not Stirred’ but the team at the GCCEC, affectionately refer to him as Martini! The Animals with Attitude Sculpture Trail was designed by Molendinar Academy Award winner John Cox, who worked on the 1995 film Babe. The 42 kg koala is completely unique and was decorated by artist David Reen. Guests are encouraged to get up close and personal with our James Bond inspired tuxedo clad koala located in the garden across from the Centre's main entrance.
