Posted on 19 October, 2009

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has achieved international benchmarking status for its commitment to the environment.

The GCCEC joins an elite group of convention centres in the world to be recognized by the highly rated international Green Globe Group, whose rigorous accreditation program ranks businesses and organizations on their environmental practices across a range of operational areas.

Green Globe is the international benchmarking, certification and improvement system for sustainable travel and tourism established by the World Travel and Tourism Council.

In addition to having a Sustainability Policy in place, GCCEC has eight of the ten assessed Earthcheck indictors above the baseline level with three indicators; Energy Consumption, Water Consumption and Water Saving above the Best Practice level, an achievement commended by the Green Globe Group.

The Centre’s commitment to green initiatives is marked with the formation of a Project Green Task Force made up of dedicated company employees and leading industry experts; Ecosure working together to reduce the GCCEC’s future operational carbon footprint.
