$40 Million Dollar Extension Open for Business!
Posted on 20 October, 2009
The $40 million Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) extension is complete and open for business. With over 124,000 man hours, 1,550 m3 of concrete poured 375 tonnes of structural steel erected and 7,000 litres of paint, Australia’s largest regional convention centre can now boast an extra two exhibition halls, a registration office, three meeting rooms and three new kitchens.
The greatly anticipated official opening set down for early in the New Year will see the GCCEC now have a total of 4 halls, 4 registration offices, 18 meeting rooms, 12 kitchens and a total ground floor exhibition capacity of 10,000 square metres.
GCCEC General Manager Adrienne Readings says, the construction process has been a very streamlined and positive experience, and therefore the extension timelines and targets have been met on time.
The Queensland Government commenced construction proceedings as a result of the increasing demand on the Gold Coast for larger space and concurrent sessions during national and international conventions and incentives.
“With the completion of the extensions, we anticipate it will only serve to cement the Gold Coast’s status as the premier events destination, whist contributing to business tourism and city infrastructure,” Ms. Readings said.
The GCCEC continues to offer a unique event experience, combining first-class service, with unlimited business delegate facilities and sophisticated technology all within a resort location.
GCCEC is set to host the Australian Motorcycle Expo in February 2009 as its first official major exhibition to utilise the new space.
