GCCEC Wins Two Progressive Awards at Industry Event

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has won two awards at this year’s Queensland Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Industry Awards.

The GCCEC team picked up accolades across two progressive categories, Corporate Social Responsibility (over 30 full time employees) and the Individual Award for QLD MEA Ungerboeck Young Professional Scholarship that went to GCCEC Sales Executive, Jordi Taylor.

Convention Centre General Manager, Adrienne Readings said both awards advocate social reform and are reflective of the Centre’s world-class reputation for service excellence and innovation.

“Congratulations to Jordi and our outstanding team who work relentlessly to deliver excellence to our clients and push the envelope daily to remain at the forefront of the meetings industry whilst also displaying the upmost commitment to caring for the environment and the wider Gold Coast community.”

“Last year we made history becoming the first convention centre in the world to achieve Gold EarthCheck status. Winning the CSR award is extremely gratifying for members of our Project Green Committee whose relentless resolve to continuously evolve our sustainable environmental and social practices complements our holistic business approach,” she said.

 GCCEC’s proudly shared its first CSR award alongside dual winner Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

MEA acknowledges and helps to develop the youth of the industry from a grass-roots level cultivating the future leaders of the meetings industry. Miss Taylor stood out from an incredibly high calibre of future leaders and said she was thrilled to receive the award.

GCCEC is Australia’s current reigning premier venue winner (2012 Best Venue for 500 delegates or more - Meetings and Events Australia) and is represented in the National MEA Hall of Fame.

Following the Queensland State Awards, GCCEC will now go on to contest the MEA National Awards to be held on the 17 May 2014 in Kuala Lumpur.

I have conducted two major formal dinners at GCCEC for approx 700 people each time, the more recent of these being held in March 2015. I am completely satisfied with all aspects of working with GCCEC and their performance in presenting our function. They were completely professional and were willing to do things exactly the way I wanted them done, even meeting some unusual requirements. When I requested to make layout changes only hours before the dinner the request was accommodated immediately and with professional ease. The dinner was an alternate drop three course full service meal with drinks package, and it was without a doubt the best formal dinner I have ever attended. I have managed many similar dinners in the past but this dinner achieved by far the best result, it was the easiest to organise and to then manage on the night. Our GCCEC functions manager was a competent and willing professional who achieved an absolutely flawless event. I am still trying to understand how the catering staff were able to prepare almost 700 perfectly cooked and presented meals and get them to the tables whilst still hot. An excellent event perfectly presented by cheerful and competent professional staff.
